The coronavirus pandemic has brought in a lot of things to Nigeria and in fact the entire world. The facemasks that were essentially the exclusive preserve of the health workers has now been made a part and parcel of daily life for all Nigerians, not just Nigerians but for the entire world. It is seen as one of the preventive methods against the coronavirus. This was recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the various world governments keyed into it.
Everybody all over the world is now advised to wear the facemask. In some states in Nigeria, the governments have made it mandatory that all residents must wear facemasks and that anyone seen outside without facemasks will be arrested and isolated for 14 days. With this directive, different shades and forms of facemasks are now seen everywhere in the country. The issue is now based on covering one’s face irrespective of whatever one uses. With this people have improvised all kinds of wears to represent facemasks.
Some fashion designers have made it look fashionable by sewing the facmasks with the colour of clothes the people are wearing. Some use the colour of their head tie, wrapper, and all kinds of wears to match. The whole issue has been turned to fashion and beauty show. Some others have deviated entirely from beauty to wearing things that look so funny on their faces and by so doing draw attention of people to themselves.
The pictures you will see below depict how people have turned facemasks to funny shows on their faces and thereby calling for attention from onlookers. This is Nigeria. While people, especially dress makers are cashing in and making money for themselves, others are converting the entire issue to funny jokes and causing comic reliefs. Although it is good at least let people laugh away their pains caused by the coronavirus.
