A new media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has said that the current coronavirus pandemic that is hitting Nigerians and the entire world has never been experienced once since the nation Nigeria was born, hence he said Nigerians should cooperate with the President Buhari’s government to make all the efforts a well worth success.
Bashir Ahmad, who made the call in a tweet on Monday, said not only Nigeria but no country of the world has ever passed through a challenge of this nature, so he added that a concerted effort was needed to win the war and come out of the challenge without much stress on the economy and health of the nation.
He insisted that no country was ever prepared for this pandemic and that no country will be able to win the war without support from its citizens, consequently he said all Nigerian citizens should join hands with the president and all the bodies jointly working to ensure the pandemic was contained and the nation comes back to its feet again.
His tweet reads: “Nobody has ever been on this road, Nigeria and other countries are trying their best to find solution that will bring succour to the people. No country is prepared for this pandemic, and no country will win over it without the support from its citizens, so let’s do our part.”
Bashir Ahmad is very correct. No country can make any progress in the war against the virus if its citizens are rebellious and unwilling to follow the steps laid down by the government and the health workers who in the frontline in the battle against the virus in Nigeria.
It is expected that as the Nigerian president with his team of experts and the health workers are working to ensure the pandemic is controlled, the citizens are playing their roles by ensuring that they adhere to laid down principles from the World Health Organisation (WHO), federal and the state ministries of health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). The wearing of facemasks, washing of hands with soap and water and using sanitisers are very important and are part of cooperation with the government.
Nigerians are also expected to stay away from crowded places and maintain social or physical distancing in dealing with people. These are essential ingredients in the cooperative war against the coronavirus pandemic. The war cannot be won without the unity of all hands in the nation. All Nigerians must join hands with the government to come out of this challenge.
Those who are expressing unbelief in the existence of the coronavirus, I think they are not doing themselves well. People are dying and we cannot to say the virus does not exist in Nigeria.
