I thought it was a joke until the writing declaration passed first reading, a Nigerian senator proposed a bill seeking the ban on all generators in Nigeria,
Senator Bima Enagi The man representing Niger South, Bima has introduced a bill that seeks to ban the importation of generators in Nigeria.
The bill, titled “a bill for an Act to prohibit/ban the importation of generating sets to curb the menace of environmental (air) pollution and to facilitate the development of the power sector,” was one of the six bills read for the first time on Wednesday.
The bill prescribes, at least, ten years imprisonment for any person who knowingly sells generator sets.
It was gathered that the ban shall not include generator sets used for essential services which include:
* Medical purposes (hospitals and nursing homes and healthcare facilities).
* Railway stations/services.
* Elevators (lifts).
* Research Institutions, and
* Facilities that require 24 hours electric power supply.
below are Photos on the Man behind the bill.
Actually, I wouldn’t deny the fact the the bill if passed, will allow the growth of Nigeria power generation but since power supply in Nigeria is grossly insufficient I think the document should be well reviewed, I mean very serious review before approval.
What do you think will happen to Nigerians that rely on generator to power their businesses if the document got approved?
