The formal Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has expressed his concern on the review of the 2020 budget by the federal government, letting out that the present government has forfeited the present global economy reality
On Thursday Atiku advised the government to sell a few of the presidential jets and also told them to cancel the N27bn embarked for the renovation of the National Assembly.
He explained that significant cut in the funds budget for the presidential feeding and transport will help the Citizens get a better deal
According to him, despite the reduction in the price of oil in the international market and to inability to expand other revenue sector, the federal government has only reduced the budget by only 0.6 percent ,from N10.59trn to N10.53trn .
As the time of the budget was first presented on Thursday 8,2019, we are producing 2.18 million barrels a day at the price of $57 per barrel. he said the case has rewritten
“The massive budgets to run both the Presidency and the Legislature has to be downsized. The budget for purchasing luxury cars for the President, his vice, and other political office holders must be jettisoned. Leave the salaries of civil servants alone, but reduce the salaries of political appointees. Sell 8 or 9 of the jets in the Presidential Air Fleet.
“Any budget reduction that is less than 25% will not be in the interest of Nigeria. And aside from a budget slash, Nigeria needs a budget realignment, to redirect expenditure away from running a massive bureaucracy, into social development sectors like education, infrastructure, and above all, healthcare. We must invest in the goose that lays the golden egg – the Nigerian people.”
